Games I Can’t Shut Up About

Hey, I’m John. This is my little corner where I write about weird, fun, and sometimes overlooked games on Steam. No hype—just stuff I actually enjoyed and want to talk about.

Hi its me

What This Blog Is All About

I started Next Level John because I talk about games way too much—and figured I might as well write it down.

This isn’t a news site or a hype machine. Just me, sharing thoughts on games that caught my attention on Steam.

Sometimes it’s something small and weird. Sometimes it’s just fun. Either way, if I write about it, I played it.

No filters, no fluff. Just honest takes from a guy who really loves games.

Latest Reviews & Rambles

Here’s what I’ve been playing (and overthinking) lately. No polished verdicts—just real impressions, written while the game’s still fresh in my head. Dive in and see what’s been keeping me up at night.

game 1

May 18, 2025

The Precinct

Drive fast, chase criminals, and patrol a city that feels like it’s always on the edge of chaos. Retro cop drama vibes, with modern action.

game 2

May 9, 2025

Tempest Rising

A throwback RTS with base building, Tiberium-like crystals, and explosive battles that feel straight out of the late ’90s—with a few welcome updates.

game 3

May 5, 2025

South of Midnight

Step into a mythical Deep South, where folk tales walk and shadows talk. A slow-burn action-adventure with soul, magic, and some seriously creepy vibes.

Game 4

May 2, 2025

Gal*Gun 2 - Pole Position Pin-up

A wild ride through heart-thumping rail-shooter chaos, where love hits harder than bullets. Welcome to Gal*Gun 2’s most over-the-top spin yet.

Coming Soon to the Blog

Got a few titles lined up that I’m either playing right now or about to dive into. Reviews are cooking—just need a bit more time (and probably snacks). Stay tuned, they’re on the way.

Crow Country

April 28, 2025

Crow Country

Low-poly horror with PS1 vibes and eerie quiet. You’re exploring a dead theme park where nothing stays still for long.

Still Wakes the Deep

May 7, 2025

Still Wakes the Deep

North Sea oil rig, 1970s, something in the water. You’re stuck in isolation—and it’s not just the storm you should be afraid of.

Harold Halibut

May 11, 2025

Harold Halibut

Handmade stop-motion style adventure under the sea. It’s weird, slow, beautiful—and kind of wholesome in the oddest way.

Tales from Candleforth

May 15, 2025

Tales from Candleforth

Dark folktale point-and-click wrapped in cozy horror. Puzzles, secrets, and a village that definitely isn’t telling you everything.

Notes from Me

Sometimes I just feel like writing stuff that’s not a full review. Thoughts, moments, game dev curiosities—whatever’s on my mind while I’m messing around with this blog. No big structure, just honest little blurbs.

From My Mailbox

Sometimes games just land in my inbox or pop up at the perfect moment—and I can’t stop thinking about them. Here are a few that caught my eye. Pretty sure they’ll end up on the blog soon.

Atomfall

This one looks quiet, strange, and way too British in the best way. Definitely keeping an eye on it.

Blood Strike

Feels like farming, chaos, and magic all in one odd little package. I’ve got no idea what to expect, but I’m curious.

FragPunk

I’ve bounced off this game twice already... and yet here I am again. Third time’s the charm?

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered

Honestly? I still don’t know if this is a game I need to replay or just want to see if my hands still remember those jumps.

FAQ – Stuff People Keep Asking

Not always. If a game’s built around replaying or it's just really long, I’ll write once I’ve seen enough to get the feel. I try to be honest about how far I’ve made it.

Both, kind of? I’m not a journalist—just a guy sharing thoughts. I write casually, but I do take the time to actually play and think before posting.

Mostly indie or weird mid-sized stuff because it’s what I gravitate toward. But if a big title catches my attention, I won’t ignore it just because it’s popular.

Honestly? As often as I can. I’ve got a life outside this blog, but I try to drop something new every week or so. Unless I get sucked into a 100-hour game. Then… well, you’ll know why it’s quiet.

Absolutely. Just shoot me a message. I can't promise I’ll get to everything, but I love hearing what people are into—it’s half the fun of doing this.

Surprisingly often, yeah. Some games stick with me and I come back weeks later with a fresh take. Sometimes the second play hits harder than the first.

Why I Started This Blog

I started this blog because I talk (a lot) about games in real life, and figured… why not write it down somewhere? I'm John, and this little corner of the internet is just me, sharing thoughts on games I actually play — the weird ones, the fun ones, the ones that surprised me.

There’s no big plan here. I’m not trying to promote anything or convince anyone to buy stuff. I just like sitting down after a session and putting those thoughts into words — what worked, what didn’t, what stuck with me longer than expected.

It’s been about a month since I kicked this off, and I’m figuring things out as I go. But if any of this resonates with someone else out there, that’s already a win in my book.
